An August article written by Stephen Brook for The Australian highlights some new technological changes to the Newsagency game.
“Matt Handbury, the nephew of Rupert Murdoch, is overseeing the expansion of Blueshyft, a countertop tech platform that turns newsagents into digital shopfronts.
Available in 1200 newsagents, the Blueshyft platform facilitated more than $22 million cash deposits last financial year in 300,000 transactions.” – Stephen Brook
What is Blueshyft?
According to www.blueshyft.com, Blueshyft operates on an Ipad Mini. The platform is IOS-based and allows customers to use cash to pay for digital goods and services.
Customers can:
- Load their digital wallet
- Credit their online account
- Pay for online orders
- Purchase or redeem gift cards
How does Blueshyft Work?
- Customer downloads the Blueshyft app
- Customer generates cash – in QR code
- Customer finds their chosen Blueshyft location using the map facility
- Customer scans their unique QR code at the Ipad Mini available at the Blueshyft location
- Customer verifies their details and pays with either card or cash
- Customer’s account is instantly credited.
The company is planning to expand into 1500 outlets from their current 1200 by the end of the year!
“We think it’s interesting where this is going, and beyond just a cash gateway facility, because as Amazon enters Australia and all sizes of business look for a way to grow customers and transactional activity, we are sitting inside a network of shopfronts across Australia that totals more than 3500 and has a combined daily customer average of 2.6 million people, and they are a loyal daily spending audience.” – Stephen Brook
